What is Sports Kinesiology?

Sports Kinesiology is a form of holistic Mind-Body medicine
SPORTS KINESIOLOGY is a relatively new and cutting edge holistic modality in Mind-Body Medicine that combines Holistic Kinesiology with Sports Science, Neuro-Muscular Techniques and Nutrition.
It is based on an integrated health model, whereby the physiology, structure, biochemistry, psychology and electro-magnetic influences are all considered as important to optimal health and function.
The aim of the Sports Kinesiologist is to find the cause of the symptoms/problem. It is a true holistic therapy - every aspect of the human being is taken into consideration and treated. Drawing from a broad range of techniques from both Eastern and Western modalities, Sports Kinesiology integrates these complimentary approaches to create a powerful therapy that can create deep and lasting changes on all levels of a person.
Sports Kinesiology is a non-invasive therapy that compliments Western Medicine and other therapies very well. It is important to note that a Kinesiologist does NOT diagnose illnesses, and therefore from time to time you may be referred to a GP, Naturopath or other specialist to assist your treatment needs.
Sports Kinesiologists cater for each individual's unique needs and goals of treatment. Some of the tools and skills a Sports Kinesiologist may utilise are:

How is Sports Kinesiology different from Holistic Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a safe and effective natural therapy that utilises biofeedback in the form of gentle muscle monitoring as a means of identifying underlying stress or imbalances that are creating symptoms such as pain and dysfunction.
Muscle monitoring can also determine whether that stress has a physical, biochemical, emotional, psychological or electro-magnetic basis. By learning the origin and then treating the cause of the problem, symptoms often resolve as the body is given the opportunity to re-balance and heal itself naturally. You can read more about Kinesiology here.
The difference between a regular Kinesiologist and a Sports Kinesiologist is the skill set in which the practitioner is trained. Sports Kinesiologists have a broader range of physical assessment tools and are able to include movement programs such as corrective exercises and stretches to compliment and assist treatment. Both streams of Kinesiology utilise tools from Eastern-based Medicine, Mind-Body Medicine, Nutrition, Holistic Counselling as well as muscle testing.
Although the name "Sports" suggests that this is a specialist stream of Kinesiology for those people who are involved in sports/exercise, this is not the ONLY group of people who would see a Sports Kinesiologist!

What will my first session include?

Kinesiology Muscle testing
Your initial consultation for Sports Kinesiology is important for both the practitioner and client to see where imbalances are in the body. It may include a range of physical and neurological assessments for posture, muscles and joints, as well as general movement patterns.
This session provides valuable data from which the practitioner is able to create a baseline of results, as well as create an individualised treatment plan. Subsequent sessions and data collection can then be compared to these initial results to show progress. Being able to measure your results in an objective way shows both practitioner and client what is working, and what is not so that treatments can be adjusted accordingly.
